Deluxe Guitar, serial # 624574. Top is made of Solid Sitka Spruce (natural High Gloss Finish). Back and sides are made of solid Mahogany. Somebody did a pretty nasty job of spraying some thin lacquer all over the guitar. At that point, it would be almost impossible to take rid of it. Yet, the layer is very thin and doesn’t alter the sound in any way. It’s not nice for sure, but not outrageous either, and may have ended protecting the guitar! Now the good news is that you get it for cheaper (without the lacquer, it would have gone for more then $1500).
That guitar was made in the Gibson Kalamazoo workshop, Michigan, in 1973. It does not compare to any J-50 or J-45 made in the sixties, but it is still a fine piece of craftsmanship. I’ve been through a lot of mid seventies J-50 and they are pretty consistent in tone and quality. That one does not stand apart from the others and sound very sweet.
She comes in a non original vintage hardshell case. /p>
