DEERING BANJOS

How come a French guy offers banjos? I asked myself the same question. You won’t be surprised to know that the banjo is not a French instrument. I would even say that it’s almost unknown in that place of the world. Of course we know about banjo, we have seen John Boorman’s Deliverance, but I do not remember having seen a banjo in a music store in France…

My initial plan was to stick with acoustic guitars and sound re-enforcement solutions, but I merely consider starting with banjos. I tried some budget banjos and had not much been impressed. Until I tried a Goodtime banjo, and then I guess I could find an interest in that mysterious instrument.

I wanted to know much and contacted DEERING. Carol offered me to visit their factory near San Diego and let me know more about their manufacturing secrets. This experience I shared with my wife will certainly be remembered for the rest of our life. Meeting Greg Deering working in his factory is really unforgettable.

I have learnt some banjo licks since then and started to work on their electro-acoustic banjo. It’s amazing how those instruments sound and how versatile they can be, from traditional bluegrass, through oriental style (banjo can actually sound like a sitar!), to some serious delta blues or African music (yes, banjo roots are set deep in Africa).

If you’re ready to venture in Banjo’s territory, let’s DEERING be your guide!
